Prasophyllum petilum - Tarengo Leek Orchid greeting card
Australian native plant
Reproduced from an original watercolour painting by Cheryl Hodges.
Greeting card 10 x 15cm, blank inside with brown recycled envelope
Text on reverse of card reads:
This is a ground orchid, between 15-30cm high. The flower spike has around 20 flowers, purple to pink with greenish tinges. The flowers are 5-7mm wide.
The Tarengo Leek Orchid was declared an endangered species in 1996. It is known to exist in two main areas - the Hall Cemetery and Booroowa.
As this plant is small and inconspicuous, in my original painting I enlarged the plant by five times the actual size to show the beautifully detailed flowers. I have used watercolour fading to graphite to allude to the precarious situation of the species.
