This is a leafless, saprophytic orchid, meaning it obtains its food from decaying matter in the soil rather than by photosynthesis. It is quite striking with up to 40 flowers on a dark brownish stem, in the summer months. It is found in eastern NSW and ACT, south east Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania and south eastern South Australia.
