Emerald Tip Beetle or Brown Christmas Beetle - Anoplognathus chloropyrus
This beetle has a metallic green pygidium (at the base of the abdomen) and ‘chloropyrus’ means ‘green fire’. The common name Emerald Tip Beetle is used on the ‘Xmas Beetle App’ created by the Australian Museum. There are 34 species of Christmas beetles, which can be distinguished by features such as size, colour, shape, hairiness etc and the Xmas Beetle App is a great way to learn more about these interesting beetles.
