$6.00

Nodding Greenhood Orchid, Pterostylis nutans, greeting card, Australian native plant

Reproduced from an original watercolour painting by Cheryl Hodges. Greeting card 10 x 15cm, blank inside with brown recycled envelope.

Text on reverse of card reads:
Pterostylis nutans is a terrestrial orchid native to the Australian states of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia as well as the Australian Capital Territory. It has round tubers and can form large colonies. Its common names are Parrot’s Beak Orchid or Nodding Greenhood due to the leaning or ‘nodding’ tendency of the flowers. The plant can grow to 30cm, the flowers are translucent green with darker stripes, to 2.5cm long, leaves are in rosettes of 3 to 6 with a wavy margin. The flowers are pollinated by a type of fungus gnat which is attracted to a chemical produced by the flower’s labellum.
