This beetle with its striking rainbow coloured metallic elytra (wing cases) is native to forests in Queensland and Papua New Guinea. Larvae will usually be found in logs where they eat rotting wood. Males grow up to 70mm and females up to 46mm. Males have large mandibles primarily used to fight for a mate. These beetles are good fliers and most active at night.
